Project team: M.Sc. Freya Lanczik
Funding: Innovationsfonds des gemeinsamen Bundesauschusses
Duration: 02/2024-06/2026

Background

The aim of this study is to investigate the links between parental psychological stress and illness in the period around birth and child development. The study should also help to improve the diagnosis and treatment of mental illnesses around birth and thus promote healthy child development.

Methods

To this end, the University Women's Hospital has been running the "Baby Pilot Project", the only one of its kind in Bavaria, since 2022: all women giving birth at the Women's Hospital in Würzburg are screened for mental illness and psychosocial stress. All women are also offered voluntary, free counseling in a personal consultation with specially trained baby guides. If necessary, they are referred to appropriate treatment and support measures.

Aims and goals

The study therefore also aims to scientifically prove the success of the project, which has already been reported by patients and staff at the women's clinic. Network partners from the field of peripartum care will also be surveyed for this purpose. The women will be surveyed once when they register for the birth using questionnaires and again 10 months later using online questionnaires.
