Our goal is to make a lasting impact on the field of immunotherapy to improve the human condition. To make a great impact on the field, we must achieve the following tasks:

Postdoc positions
If you are looking for a position as a post-doc please send an email to us (beilhack_a@) with a cover letter describing your past and future projects, career goals, what you hope to get out of the Beilhack Lab and what you hope to bring to the Beilhack Lab. Please enclose your CV and the names, emails and phone numbers of three references. To be considered, you will need at least one first-author publication in a high quality international journal and the potential to be an independent investigator in the future. We are looking for highly motivated individuals with expertise in immunology, molecular biology and/or imaging, excellent communication skills, fluency in English (both written and spoken) and the ability to work independently and together with a team. Computational background is also a big plus. Currently, we filled our open postdoctoral positions. However, exceptions may be made for candidates with a strong immunology background. ukw.de

Antigen presentation to alloreactive T cells
A master thesis project is available to study the antigen presentation in acute graft-versus-host disease (aGvHD). Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a curable therapy for certain malignancies. Nevertheless, 30–60% of HSCT patients develop aGvHD, which is caused by allogeneic T-cells attacking host tissues. In our lab, we are investigating how defined cell types boost aGvHD initiation.
Successful candidates will employ a broad array of research methods such as cell culture, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, and in vivo mouse models. Interested and highly motivated candidates will be given the opportunity to participate in an interdisciplinary translational research project.

Immunobiology of Regulatory T cells (Tregs)
A Bachelor/Master thesis project is available to study the biology of human and mouse regulatory T cells, important signaling pathways and cell-cell-interactions of immune regulation in inflammation and cancer. Successful candidates will employ a broad array of research methods such as cell culture, immunological assays, multiparameter flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, transfection, qRT-PCR and in vivo mouse models of non-invasive optical imaging. Interested and highly motivated candidates will be given the opportunity to participate in an interdisciplinary translational research project.A successful applicant will have some basic lab experience and good communication skills in English.

Internships and HiWi positions
Internship – Fungal infections (followed by a master thesis project)
An internship is open as part of a research project on development of a novel therapeutic approach for invasive fungal infections in immunocompromised individuals. This project addresses an unmet clinical need for novel antifungal agents, as currently available therapeutic options are limited due to emerging fungal resistance, severe side effects and toxicity). Our project aims at identifying novel antifungal targets through in vitro and in vivo screenings of a fungal deletion mutant library, followed by developing specific inhibitors for individual targets.
Successful internship candidates will learn and employ various research methods such as fungal culture, fluorescence microscopy, and animal handling. For interested and highly motivated candidates, this internship can lead to a master thesis project regarding optimization of a new model for in vivo screening of the mutant library. The successful applicant will have basic lab experience and good communication skills in English.

Subject: Internship – Fungal infections
Internship – Multiple Myeloma (followed by a master thesis project)
An internship is open as part of a research project on interactions of cancer with the bone marrow microenvironment. Despite treatment advances in the past decades for multiple myeloma (MM), patients suffering from this disease of malignant plasma cells remain largely incurable. In our research project we investigate MM, which appears to depend on cell adhesion molecule mediated interactions with the local niches in the bone marrow. Exploring these interactions holds great promise for developing new treatment strategies for MM.
Successful internship candidates will learn and employ various research methods such as state of the art multiparameter flow cytometry and microscopy techniques. For interested and highly motivated candidates, this internship can lead to a master thesis project on cellular and molecular interactions of the tumor microenvironment. The successful applicant will have basic lab experience and good communication skills in English.

HiWi-Position for Genotyping
A payed position as a student research assistant is open to support lab tasks, particularly PCR/genotyping of transgenic mouse strains. A successful candidate will have some basic lab experience, is reliable and friendly, and shows good communication skills. We expect a commitment for at least one year.
