Our range of treatment and therapy
The Department of Psychiatry, Psychosomatics, and Psychotherapy of University Hospital Würzburg is a clinic providing maximum care to the region of Lower Franconia and beyond. The range of healthcare services includes state-of-the-art treatment of all psychiatric disorders based on established Guidelines.
Clinical core areas
Embedded in the Center of Mental Health, the department offers a comprehensive range of outpatient, day-care and inpatient services for all mental health conditions. Our clinical foci lie on the therapy of anxiety disorders, affective disorders, and psychoses from the schizophrenic group. Other core areas include the treatment of dementia and addiction diseases as well as attention deficit hyperactivity syndrome (ADHD).
Specialized wards for qualified therapies
The specialized ward for bipolar disorders is currently the only certified facility in northern Bavaria for this disorder. The ward implements a concept of comprehensive and integrated therapy, which can be continued after in-patient treatment in close cooperation with the outpatient clinic. In addition, we have specialized wards for therapy-resistant depression, anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders, and addictions.
Therapeutic options
The multi-professional and large team enables us to provide therapies and care optimally tailored to the individual patient. The spectrum of therapies we offer ranges from numerous psychotherapeutic procedures, pharmacotherapy and stimulatory procedures, to supplementary services such as occupational therapy, physiotherapy, or music and art therapy. A large staff of social pedagogues cares for and advises patients and relatives in the situations of crisis.
Comprehensive and specialized diagnostics
In order to enable differentiated therapy planning, neuropsychological and psychometric examinations are also carried out, which record and measure mental functions and performance profiles in detail and thus make them objectifiable.
In the sense of a holistic, psychosomatic approach, somatic side and after-effects of mental illness are also examined and treated in our facility. In the psychiatric clinic's own neurovascular laboratory, all relevant examination methods such as EEG, ECG, 24-hour ECG, 24-hour blood pressure measurement, ultrasound, or sleep-apnea screening are possible.
TDM laboratory (Therapeutic Drug Monitoring)
Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM) is a useful method to optimize pharmacotherapy by determining the blood levels of a drug. This permits us to control important influential factors on the success of pharmacotherapy. The TDM laboratory of the Psychiatric Clinic determines the concentration in serum of a whole range of psychopharmaceuticals. Thus, even colleagues in practices or smaller hospitals have the opportunity to have such analyses performed.
Pharmacogenetics (PG)
Pharmacogenetics (PG) is another area of specialisation, as the effectiveness of drugs varies from person to person. The Department of Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy at the University Hospital of Würzburg offers genotyping of CYP2D6 and CYP2C19 to ensure the best individual selection of a psychotropic drug and its optimal dosage. These significantly influence the metabolism of various active substances.
