PainScouts: Hands-on Classes

We regularly offer the young scientists from the CRU 5001 the opportunity to improve their scientific skills through our Hands-on Classes.

The aim of this program is to provide practical experience in a wide range of scientific techniques related to pain research.

The three-hour program – 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. – includes the following offers on Friday, October 11th, 2024:

  • Immunolabeling and imaging of skin biopsies
  • Pharmacotherapy: compliance and drug safety in pain treatment
  • Pain behavioural tests: troubleshooting

Courses are conceived and delivered by the principal investigators and/or scientific experts from their respective working groups.

All sessions will be face-to-face and held in English (unless explicitly stated otherwise) promoting an interactive and immersive learning environment for all participants.

CRU 5001 Jour Fixe

Update on project 5 "Social contacts as a regulator of pain sensations " and project 7 "Influence of netrin on the blood-nerve barrier" of the clinical research unit 5001.

Project leader, Univ.-Prof. Claudia, Sommer, Senior Consultant at the Department of Neurology of the University Hospital of Würzburg, will speak on the topic "Influence of the social environment on pain perception”. The doctoral student Mona Hashemianahmadi will present her results on the same topic.

Project leaders Dr. Susanne Krug from the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Univ.-Prof. Heike Rittner, MD, Head of the Pain Center at the University Hospital of Würzburg, will speak on the topic "Influence of netrin on the blood-nerve barrier". Postdoc Dr. Jeremy Chen and the doctoral student Lukas Knobe will also present their latest results.

  • RNA Sequencing Analysis and Single Cell
  • Machine learning: basics and examples

CRU 5001 Jour Fixe

Update on project 8 "Neurotrophic factors and pain states in neurons" and project 9 "ABC transporter ABCA1 in pain relief" of the clinical research unit 5001.

The project leaders Prof. Michael Sendtner, MD, and Dr. Michael Briese, both from the Institute of Clinical Neurobiology at the University Hospital of Würzburg, will speak on the topic "Neurotrophic factors and pain states in neurons". The doctoral students Ankita Rawat, Maximilian Koch and Manas Kshirsagar will present their latest results on this topic.

The project leaders Prof. Alexander Brack, MD, Deputy Director of the Department of Anaesthesiology, Intensive Care, Emergency and Pain Medicine and Head of the Molecular Pain Research Group, and Prof. Dr. Robert Blum, Head of a Working Group at the Department of Neurology at the University Hospital of Würzburg, will speak on the topic of "ABC transporter ABCA1 in pain relief". The doctoral student Felicitas Schlott will also present her latest results.
