Main services of the Center of Mental Health (CMH)

Due to its diversity, the Center of Mental Health (CMH) offers a wide range of treatment approaches, which always allow an individualized approach. In close cooperation with the participating institutions, common goals are defined, quality standards are set and concepts are developed that – in addition to patient care – also contribute to the continuous improvement of treatment and prevention of mental illness.

Strong together

By merging several institutions of the University Hospital and the University of Würzburg into one large Center of Mental Health (CMH), we are able to offer all forms of patient care, comprehensively and individually adapted: We treat all age groups and all mental illnesses of the entire spectrum, from children to adults and into old age. To this end, we offer a differentiated infrastructure for the most diverse treatment requirements on a total of eleven wards with 200 places, with 70 places in four day clinics, with 16 specialized outpatient clinics and two university outpatient clinics.

With one voice

Whether public relations, statements or concepts for common goals, the CMH strives to integrate the interests of patients of all participating institutions and to represent them to the outside world. A major concern is the education of the population about mental illness and disorders as the most important factor of prevention. This is realized through common events, activities, advice and support by an advisory board of self-help groups and groups of relatives.

Interdisciplinary research and quality assurance

In addition to clinical care, all facilities work closely and interdisciplinarily together in teaching and research. An institutionalized example of this is the Comprehensive Anxiety Center (CAC), to which the participating institutions contribute with many research projects on different aspects of anxiety disorders. A further example is the German Center for Prevention Research on Mental Health, which brings together other institutions of the University Hospital and the University beyond the CMH. An international scientific advisory board accompanies the research work within the CMH.

Today, research always takes place in a network, both regionally and nationally, e.g. within the framework of the MMHC Research Network Mental Health Frankfurt-Würzburg as well as within the framework of international cooperations.

Responsibility from history

We treat people with mental illnesses in Würzburg for over 400 years. Phases of humanistic care and inhuman treatment alternate. The history of psychiatry in Würzburg is a reminder and an obligation to us.

Ability to act in crises

In order to be able to react quickly and efficiently to special circumstances or emergencies, experts need to be consulted quickly. This is how the CMH network was able to take rapid action in the Corona Pandemic. On the one hand, we offer hospital staff concrete support in coping with the mental stress, and on the other hand, we have simultaneously initiated several research projects on Covid-19. Together with the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in Berlin, we have developed a Corona Health App to collect data on mental stress in the population.
