Gastroenterology
The Gastroenterology division as part of the Department of Internal Medicine II is treating patients with all diseases of the digestive system. This includes the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, biliary tract and pancreas.
Professor Dr. Alexander Meining is the chair of gastroenterology. He represents the entire subject in research, teaching and patient care.
Within the framework of the clinic, we work closely with the departments of hepatology, oncology and endocrinology as well as the surgical clinic, nuclear medicine, the radiology department and the pathological institute.
We are particularly specialized in complex endoscopic interventions and in the treatment of patients with neuroendocrine tumors. Since 2016 we are one of eight German centers certified by the European Society for Neuroendocrine Tumors (ENETS Center of Excellence Würzburg).
Professor Dr. Alexander Meining, head of department, has been listed as an endoscopy specialist in the FOCUS list of doctors since 2016.
InExEn (Interventional and Experimental Endoscopy) is a team inside the Gastroenterology division of experienced physicians, engineers and computer-scientists. The aim of the group is developing innovative diagnostic procedures and therapeutic solutions for gastrointestinal endoscopy.
